Kadrey v. Meta Platforms
A dispute brought by thirteen authors (including R. Kadrey) against Meta over training the Llama models on books from so-called shadow libraries. In June 2025, Judge Vince Chhabria found the training to be fair use but emphasized that the plaintiffs could have succeeded had they demonstrated market dilution caused by flooding the market with competing outputs.
